"The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event occurring annually in late January. GGJ brings together thousands of game enthusiasts participating through many local jams around the world. GGJ is a project of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA)."
Hello jammers! Global Game Jam 2013 gives us a 48 hour opportunity to develop a game amongst friends and new acquaintances!
We will begin on Friday evening at the Art Institute of Portland with a keynote, icebreakers, idea generating activities, and team selection (approx. 2 hours). After jammers are satisfied with their ideas and teams, they will work on their games until we approach our deadline on Sunday afternoon. They will begin to upload their "completed" games by the Global Game Jam deadline. Exact times will be available in our schedules during the jam.
Jammers are encouraged to not form teams beforehand, as to inspire new relationships via the icebreakers at the beginning of the 48 hour period (though I am aware that some people are predisposed to working with each other/alone and will do so regardless after finishing the icebreaker activities). Sleeping space and some equipment will be provided, though jammers are responsible for their own overall health and wellness (which will be supported via suggested breaks, mealtimes, etc.). Updates regarding on-location snacks, prizes for jam "achievements," and other logistics will be added to this and other event listings soon.
Instructions for registering are listed in the first paragraph of this event posting. Jammers are considered officially registered when they are registered via the Global Game Jam website. We have room for 70 jammers. If more than 70 people come to the event and plan to participate for the entire weekend, Global Game Jam site registrants will be accepted first, then pigsquad.com registrants, then PIGSquad Facebook group registrants, then first-come-first-served.
If you have any additional questions, comments, or suggestions, please first read the Art Institute location page on the Global Game Jam website. For further contact, e-mail me at pigsquad at gmail dot com, post on this event's wall, or message an admin on the Facebook!
