Hello jammers! The Portland Indie Game Squad's 2014 Mayhem Jam gives game makers of all experience levels, skills, and backgrounds a 48 hour opportunity to develop a new game amongst friends and new acquaintances!
We will begin on Friday evening at Urban Airship with a keynote, icebreakers, idea generating activities, and team selection (approx. 2 hours). After jammers are satisfied with their ideas and teams, they will work on their games until we approach our deadline on Sunday afternoon, when we can share our games with each other in a showcase event! To support a fun, inspiring environment, jammers are welcome to stay on site at Urban Airship for the entire weekend.
Jammers are encouraged to not form teams beforehand, as to inspire new relationships via the icebreakers at the beginning of the 48 hour period (though I am aware that some people are predisposed to working with each other/alone and will do so regardless after finishing the icebreaker activities). Sleeping space and some equipment will be provided, though jammers are responsible for their own overall health and wellness (which will be supported via suggested breaks, mealtimes, etc.). Updates regarding on-location snacks, prizes for jam "achievements," and other logistics will be added to this and other event listings soon.
Instructions for registering are listed in the first paragraph of this event posting. Jammers are considered officially registered when they have a ticket via the Eventbrite site. We have room for 75 jammers. If more than 75 people come to the event and plan to participate for the entire weekend, Eventbrite site registrants will be accepted first, then pigsquad.com registrants, then PIGSquad Facebook group registrants, then first-come-first-served. Those who plan to jam remotely or only spend a small portion of their weekend on site at the jam are not required to claim an Eventbrite ticket. Observers are welcome, but should not sign up for a ticket (RSVP'ing on pigsquad.com/the FB are fine). This event is free and 18+.
If you have any additional questions, comments, or suggestions, please e-mail me at pigsquad at gmail dot com, post on this event's wall, or message an admin on the Portland Indie Game Squad Facebook group!
